Halldór Laxness (2002) once wrote that the land ceases to be earthly where it meets the sky, as though Iceland itself resists the category of ground entirely. On the Reykjanes Peninsula, that resistance has become literal. Since 2021, a renewed volcanic cycle has pulled geological time into the rhythm of daily life. Roads buried under fresh lava are reconstructed within days. The town of Grindavík has been repeatedly evacuated, its streets fenced and silent, its future unresolved. This thesis begins from that question. Not with conclusions, but with speculation. Lava, in its movement from molten flow to cooled aggregate, passes through states that carry spatial, structural, and textural qualities unlike anything quarried or manufactured.

The Venice Lagoon is a dynamic and delicate landscape that exists between land and water, permanence and erosion, culture and ecology. This project investigates the lagoon as a living system, shaped as much by its microbiological residents as by its architectural and historical heritage. This proposal, which combines architecture, microbial ecology, and environmental justice, offers a network of micro-intervention stations and landscape techniques spread throughout three main islands: Mazzorbo, Burano, and Torcello. These are intended to monitor and visualise microbial biodiversity, water toxicity, and ecological resilience, particularly in the face of anthropogenic stressors like as pollution, climate change, and tourism. The proposed interventions function as both research instruments and spatial artefacts, enabling environmental monitoring.

The primary concept is to create a harmonious blend between the building’s historical essence and contemporary functionality, accommodating a flower and coffee shop on the ground floor, while dedicating the upper floors to theater and performance spaces.

In the 2023 edition of the international student competition hosted by Saint Gobain, the objective was to revitalize a site provided by the authorities of Lisbon, Portugal. The challenge involved designing both a library renovation and a new mixed-use building for the plot. Our team secured the 3rd place prize in the national stage (Latvia) as well as the student-choice award. The main concept of the design was to have a CLT wood as the main material used in the building both exterior and interior.

Situating Architecture Chair

This project explores the urban fabric of Antwerp through the areas surrounding the ring road, focusing on Kiel, Middelheim, and Margrave. The research begins with an observation of how the city speaks through its surfaces: the posters, the fonts, the worn-out signs, and the informal notes that occupy its walls. These visual traces form a language that belongs to everyone who moves through the city. By translating this material communication into acts of weaving, cutting, and stitching, the work proposes a way of reading the city not only through words but through touch and texture.

Situated in the mountainous landscape of Lower Austria, Landhaus Khuner (1929–1930), designed by Adolf Loos and Heinrich Kulka, offers a compelling synthesis of modernist spatial concepts and vernacular Alpine traditions. Originally conceived as a seasonal retreat for the Khuner family, the house embodies Loos’s theory of contextual architecture, where his urban Raumplan - an approach to volumetric spatial planning - finds new expression within a rural topography.

Experiments in Drawing Theory
My exploration of Leonidov’s Linear City – Magnitogorsk began with analytical drawings unpacking the geometric rigor and ideological logic of his utopian plan. Internalizing his emphasis on linearity, repetition, and modularity, I reinterpreted this architectural language through typography. Using a consistent cube-based framework echoing Leonidov’s spatial units, I developed a set of alphabetic characters. These letterforms function as spatial entities designed to guide the eye and establish rhythm, structure, and hierarchy. To honor his visual language, I alternated between white ink on black paper—evoking his cosmic aesthetic—and black on white for formal precision. Sectional and perspectival views transformed these typographic cubes into inhabitable micro-architectures rather than flat glyphs. Translating the Linear City into a typographic system allowed me to merge geometry, space, and visionary imagination into speculative architectural forms.
Āgenskalna Market in Riga, Latvia
As co-curator for Uzvaras Parks: "Cita Nākotne" (Another Future), I organized and curated an exhibition at Āgenskalna Tirgus presenting landscape architecture proposals by RISEBA 3rd-year students. The project gathered speculative visions to reimagine the public and spatial identity of Uzvaras Park in Riga. I structured the narrative framework, coordinated student contributions, and designed the spatial layout to engage the local community in dialogues on urban green spaces.
Photography is an extension of how I read space, materiality, and form. Working with an analog film camera forces a deliberate pace, requiring patience and keen spatial awareness before releasing the shutter. I am drawn to the built environment—capturing the tactile rhythm of raw materials, the play of harsh shadows against facades, and the delicate joints where structural elements meet. Film allows me to isolate these subtle architectural details and fleeting atmospheric moments, framing everyday structures not merely as static volumes, but as layered compositions shaped by human presence, light, texture, and the steady passage of time.
